The Fine Arts Academy at McLaughlin Middle School has maintained a high standard of excellence sinceRock&Roll its inception in 2007 and this year is no different. Each of our ten departments within the academy had notable achievements this year. Here are a few of the highlights:Rock&Roll1

  • We successfully launched the Rock and Roll Academy and Usher’s New Look Music 101 this year! In conjunction, they successfully marketed and performed at McLaughlin’s first Spring Jam!
  • The chorus department saw five of their members participate in Chorusthe Florida All State Choir in Tampa, FL. In addition, choirs received Superior ratings at MPA this year!
  • The Dance department had ten top students perform in the Polk All CountyChorus2 Dance Festival. The entire Dance Department put on two excellent off-campus performances at Polk State College in the Fall and Spring.
  • The art department received a face lift this year with the addition of an outdoor work space for the 3D Art Department. McLaughlin continued its dominance at many of the local art shows with students consistently Visualtaking the top prizes at those events!
  • Our guitar department saw many students receive high ratings at the Polk County Solo and Ensemble. The guitar department at McLaughlin continues to be one of the few full time middle school guitar programs in the State of Florida.
  • The band and orchestra departments also had successful performances at their district Music Performance Assessments and had many students participate in Polk County Solo and Ensemble.
  • Our theater department put on the musical Fame, Jr. in the Spring of this year!

The arts are on the rise at McLaughlin Middle School. We are proud of our success and looking forward to all what next year has to bring!
