The McLaughlin Middle School Guitar Program started in 2007 under the direction of David Fisher. It was created as a program to enhance the arts education in Polk County, specifically in the Lake Wales community. Each year, the program has been growing and evolving to become a program that impacts the lives of the student population at McLaughlin Middle School and Fine Arts Academy. Having performed at FMEA convention conference, FMEA guitar festival and having attained lots of “Superior” ratings at “Solo and Ensemble”, the guitar program continues to strive for excellence. Currently, the program is under the direction of Samuel Ortiz, and it aims at developing not only the musical abilities of the students but also their passion for music and a character that embraces the arts as a part of an ever-changing society that can be enriched by the art of the guitar.
